DHH Washington DC Law Office Successfully Held #7 China Law Express
Ms. Yu introduced during the lecture that the Law is China’s first legislation targeted on the management, supervision and service of overseas NGOs. In accordance with the provisions of this Law, overseas NGOs may engage in activities that benefit the public in the areas of economy, education, science, culture, health, sports and environmental protection, as well as in the areas of poverty and disaster relief. The legal methods to conduct relevant activities above include registering an established representative office and carrying out temporary activities after submitting the requisite documents. Ms. Yu explained the rules of establishing representative offices, submitting activity plans, operational scope, use of funds and organization staff, etc.
During the Q&A session, audiences actively raised questions, including the number of NGOs that have been approved after the enactment of the Law, ways of identifying a Public Security Unit and strategies of effectively communicating with it. Ms. Yu stated that DHH Washington DC Law Office has conducted a preliminary background research on 253 of the approved overseas NGOs. Additionally, DHH maintains a long-term cooperation relationship with related government departments and is capable of assisting overseas NGOs to register and develop business in China.
