Advisor Liu Yangming Attends Explanation Session on “The Agreement on Cross-Strait Investment Protection and Promotion”
On November 22nd the first Explanation Session on “The Agreement on Cross-Strait Investment Protection and Promotion”, jointly held by the Cross-Strait Economic and Trade Exchange Association and the Taipei International Trade Center, was held in Beijing. The meeting attracted more than 100 attendees.
The topic of the Session was “Promoting bilateral investments and cross-strait economic prosperity”. It was presided over by the Chairman of the Cross-Strait Economic and Trade Exchange Association Mr. Wang Liaoping.
Mr. Chen Xing, Director of the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Department of the Ministry of Commerce and Mr. Huang Wenrong, the Deputy General-Secretary of Taipei International Trade Center, addressed the Session. In addition Director Li Chenggang of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Commerce and Director Hua Xiaohong of the Research Center of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau of the University of International Business and Economics spoke on “Interpreting ‘the Agreement on Cross-Strait Investment Protection and Promotion’” and “ International Industrial Division and Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation”. The Chief Asia-Pacific International Legal Advisor of Beijing DHH Law Firm, lawyer Liu Yanming, spoke on “the Investment Legal Environment of Taiwan”, examining the environment from such aspects as the definition of mainland capital, ratification, management, invested industries, investment types, employment conditions, business taxes, the obtaining of immovable property, inbound and outbound capital and dispute resolution, etc.
As the only lecturer from Taiwan attending the Session Mr. Liu Yangming was interviewed by the “People’s Daily” and the “International Business Daily”. After the Session he attended a banquet held by Vice Minister Jiang Zengwei of the Ministry of Commerce. He spoke with Director Cheng Xing of the Department of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce regarding the market access of legal service to Taiwan and the protection of interest of investment in Taiwan.
Earlier the book “Cross-Strait Investment Laws,” jointly compiled by Beijing DHH Law Firm and Taiwan Liu & Co. Law Offices led by Mr. Liu Yangming had been published in the Mainland and Taiwan, and the book has been collected by Taiwan National Library.
This volume provides great assistance to cross-strait businessmen and legal professionals in understanding the differences existing in cross-strait laws, helping avoid investment legal risks likely to be caused by these differences.
