Director Huadong Tang Attended the “UN Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation” and China’s Opening-up Forum
On November 6th , the Ministry of Commerce held the “United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation” and China’s Opening-up Forum in Shanghai. This Forum is one of the supporting events of the first China International Import Expo. Mr. Chenggang Li, Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, attended the Forum and delivered a speech. Mr. Dongchuan Luo, Vice President of the Supreme People's Court, and Ms. Anna Jobin Brett, Secretary-General of United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, also attended the Forum.
During the discussion session, concentrated on the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation and China’s Opening-up, two groups of guests aired their opinions on the historical evolution of commercial mediation, the content of the convention, the convention and business environment, the impact of the convention on international dispute resolution mechanisms, the convergence of the convention and the domestic laws, and the other issues which were highly concerned by the industry.
In June this year, the 51st Session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law adopted the draft United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, which will be submitted to the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly for consideration and approval later. The Convention aims to solve the cross-border implementation of settlement agreements reached by international commercial mediation, and provides new approaches for promoting diversified settlement of commercial disputes. The Convention will play an active role in enhancing the business environment of the state parties and promoting import-export trade as well as investment cooperation.
Mr. Huadong Tang, Senior Partner of DHH & Director of Beijing DHH (Shanghai) Law Firm, was invited to attend the Forum. Honored guests also presented the Forum, including representatives from the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, the Supreme People's Court, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other departments, and representatives from practical circles, such as the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, important commercial dispute mediation agencies at home and abroad, well-known law firms, as well as business representative, relevant scholars and other guests.
