EXPERIENCE
John Tang, Esq. is the Deputy Executive Director and Partner at the Washington DC office of Beijing DHH Law Firm, a full-service business law firm headquartered in Beijing, China, with offices worldwide. At the same time John is the President of 1337 Enterprises, LLC, a specialized consulting firm helping bridge the distance (cultural and business) between Asia and the Western World. His goal is to use his extensive knowledge and experience, and leverage his relationships to provide clients with smart, efficient and effective solutions to help them establish, grow and expand globally.
Being an attorney by trade, John’s practice focuses on general corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, commercial real estate, securities law, intellectual property protection, information security, compliance and international trade. John immigrated to the U.S. with his parents at an early age. He received his Bachelor Degree from the University of Michigan with a hard science background (biology). John received his Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University with a focus on business associations. John is licensed to practice law in Ohio, District of Columbia and England and Wales. He is fluent in Chinese language and culture, which he uses to assist his clients in overseas projects.
REPRESENTATIVE CASES
- Provided outside general counsel to large foreign owned Chinese real estate company in their everyday legal matters, including corporate governance, labor, intellectual property, real estate, regulatory, and general contract review.
- Assisted a large foreign owned real estate management company, with their market entry into China, including, set up joint venture with their Chinese partner, negotiate with local government for tax breaks and investment subsidies, contract review, intellectual property protection, and provide other legal advice..
- Provided outside general counsel and general administrative support to a public Australian nutritional group in their everyday legal matters in China, including entity setup, corporate governance, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, customs clearance and general contract review.
- Provided outside general counsel to an U.S. home appliance component company in their everyday legal matters, including due diligence on potential partners (customers, distributors, etc.), contract review, and regulatory compliance.
- Provided outside general counsel and general administrative support to a large U.S. private entity in their everyday legal matters in China, including corporate governance, tax, labor, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, customs clearance and general contract review.
- Provided due diligence investigation and report in New York for one of the four major Chinese banks in relations to an overseas loan.
- Advised a Chinese tire manufacturer in their acquisition of an U.S. distributor, including the establishment of holding and project companies, drafting and negotiating contracts, consulting with tax structure.
- Provided outside general counsel to leading US tire manufacturer in their everyday legal matters, including corporate governance, labor, intellectual property, real estate, regulatory, and general contract review.
- Represented the Chinese Chamber of Commerce before the USTR during the Section 301 investigation hearings against China and intellectual property issues.
- Attended the 2018 APEC Meeting (Thailand) and participate in the ACT-NET Asset Recovery Workshop for global anti-corruption enforcement cooperation.
- Represented the State of Ohio, State of Alabama, and State of South Carolina in their business development efforts in China.
